Fox 5 Road Warrior Visits Beach Party
Fox 5 Atlanta’s “Road Warrior,” Brett Martin, spent the morning of Friday, June 16, visiting on the square with DBA officers and members of the Beach Party committee, previewing the event held later that day.
Beach Party proceeds are used to fund Decatur’s Concerts on the Square every Saturday evening in May and September, and the lunchtime Blue Sky Concerts on the square, every Wednesday in May and September. DBA looks forward to bringing the concerts back to the Community Bandstand on the square in September, and we thank our Concerts on the Road hosts Agnes Scott College, Columbia Seminary, and Oakhurst’s Harmony Park for sharing their venues with us during the MARTA Plaza re-construction project.

Calling Decatur Hometown Heroes
Now is the time to begin thinking of your favorite Decatur Hometown Hero – that person who works hard, often behind the scenes, to make our community a better place in which to live and work. Nominate that person as a 2006 Hometown Hero.
Decatur launched its Hometown Heroes recognition and celebration in the summer of 1996 at the close of the Hometown to the World festival during the Olympics. Each year, Decatur recognizes and celebrates a new group of Hometown Heroes in December.
The Hometown Hero applications are judged by a panel of professionals who work with volunteers throughout the state of Georgia and who do not know the nominees. Nomination forms are available at City Hall, 509 N. McDonough St., and at www.decaturga.com. You may also write an essay describing your Hometown Hero and what he/she has contributed to the community. Nominations will be accepted until Sept. 15.
