Got news? DBA members are invited to share news and announcements with the Decatur community. Fill out this form, providing complete information as requested. Type or copy and paste your story into the box called "Submission Text." Your article will be reviewed for appropriateness and possible inclusion in the next DBA E-newsletter.

Submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis, limited to 15 submissions per newsletter. Newsletters are published on the first and the third Thursdays of each month, so submissions are due by the end of business the Monday prior to distribution.

Please note that graphic files are limited to no more than 250 pixels in any dimension (width or height) and must be 72 dpi, in .JPG or .GIF format. Images that exceed these parameters cannot be accepted.

8th Annual Decatur Low Country Boil
Join us at the 8th Annual Decatur Low Country Boil on Oct. 14, 6:30pm at the Solarium in Oakhurst! Round up your friends and neighbors to enjoy food by Badda Bing, music by The Dammages, beer from Victory Brewing Co, and wine from Banfi.

Several Dancers Core Invites You To Lunchtime in the Studio
Join Several Dancers Core for the 2010/2011 Lunchtime in the Studio series.

The series showcases dance performance by CORE Performance Company, and the audience even gets free lunch!

Courtney Davis Joins the TerraCotta Properties Design Team

Decatur Arts Alliance presents the Decatur Wine Festival 2010
The Decatur Wine Festival showcases over three hundred fifty wines from around the world to more than 2500 people from Decatur, Atlanta and surrounding area.

All Decatur restaurants and caterers are invited to participate in this year’s Wine Festival. Its a great opportunity for you to promote your business.

Atlanta Corporate Fight Night to benefit Decaturs Hirsch Academy
At Atlanta Corporate Fight Night on October 21, mild-mannered businessmen & women will transform into real fighters for one incredible night!

The goal is to provide an evening of great boxing excitement to benefit local charities. A Silent Auction will raise scholarship funds for Decatur’s Hirsch Academy, a highly specialized school dedicated to helping children with learning, physical & emotional challenges,

Jazzercise and Breast Cancer Research
Recently, Jazzercise was at the forefront of a study at the Breast Cancer Survivorship Center (Univ of Kansas) that strongly indicated the importance of exercise for breast cancer survivors. The participants who attended Jazzercise classes over a six-month period lost 5.6% total body fat, 12.6% of their starting body weight & 50% decrease of insulin level.

The Jazzercise group also demonstrated increased flexibility, endurance, and heart rate, as well as minimized depression and fatigue. In essence, researchers concluded that breast cancer survivors who regularly exercise reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Join us on New Street.

Decatur Kiwanis Installs New Officers
Mercedes Pasqualetti was installed as President of the Kiwanis Club of Decatur on September 15th, 2010 along with President-Elect Kevin Cregan, Treasurer Jeffery Whitehouse & Secretary Jan Truslow.

The following members will serve on the club’s board of directors: Mari Atwell, Dr Andrew Vantreese, Gerrell Sterling & Matt Lawless. Immediate past President Faye Vantreese will continue to serve on the board & is the new Lt. Gov for Division 16.

Decatur's Maud Baker Flowers & Gifts will join with a host of interior and floral design professionals in creating a "Roaring 20's" Christmas theme at the 2010 Christmas at
Callanwolde December 1-12.

The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur presents Atlanta Celebrates Photography
The Art Institute of Atlanta and its branch campus, The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur will join in the annual “Atlanta Celebrates Photography” festivities with “Just Suppose: The Art of Maggie Taylor and Jerry Uelsmann,” an exhibition running through November 6, 2010. The exhibition will be divided between the galleries at the two campuses.

The opening reception on October 15 will begin at 5 pm in the Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta with wine and hors d’oeuvres, and then proceed to the Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur for dessert and coffee beginning at 7pm. Open to the public.

Community Shred Day!
Back by popular demand – Community Shred Day! The Community School and Eagle Secure Shredding are sponsoring a Community Shred Day on October 23 from 10am-1pm in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. If you missed it in the spring – here’s your chance! Have your old tax records, bills, bank statements & other confidential documents shredded on-site and recycled. Donations of $5 per banker’s box are welcome and all proceeds support The Community School, a school for junior and high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
