Got news? DBA members are invited to share news and announcements with the Decatur community. Fill out this form, providing complete information as requested. Type or copy and paste your story into the box called "Submission Text." Your article will be reviewed for appropriateness and possible inclusion in the next DBA E-newsletter.

Submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis, limited to 15 submissions per newsletter. Newsletters are published on the first and the third Thursdays of each month, so submissions are due by the end of business the Monday prior to distribution.

Please note that graphic files are limited to no more than 250 pixels in any dimension (width or height) and must be 72 dpi, in .JPG or .GIF format. Images that exceed these parameters cannot be accepted.

3rd Annual ‘Taste of the Town’
Summer is here and that means it's time for the Keller Williams Metro Atlanta 3rd Annual ‘Taste of the Town’ charity event benefitting KW Cares and the Decatur Education Foundation. We are hosting this fabulous event on Thursday, August 25 from 5:30–9:30 at The Solarium in the heart of Oakhurst.

Tickets to the event are a $10 in advance & $15 at the door and can be purchased online or at the Keller Williams Realty Metro Atlanta office in Downtown Decatur.

With your admission you’ll sample delicious food, enjoy live music, sip libations from three bars & shop at a silent auction. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. See you there!

AJC Decatur Book Festival Volunteer Opportunities
AJC Decatur Book Festival, Sept. 2-4 in downtown Decatur, is the largest independent book festival in the nation. It takes hundreds of volunteers to hold a world class Book Festival. You are invited to volunteer at an author venue, help set up or close down the Book Market, or assist with one of the many other volunteer positions. This is a great opportunity for book lovers. Volunteers receive a Decatur Book Festival t-shirt. There are opportunities available that are perfect for individuals and groups. Deadline Extension for DecaturWISE Commercial Rebate Program
The deadline for the DecaturWISE Commercial Rebate Program has been extended to September 16 at 5pm.

Decatur businesses and organizations have the opportunity to apply for rebates for energy efficient upgrades to buildings located within the city. Funded through an Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant administered through the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), rebates ranging from $1,000-$4,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis. Better Than A Groupon Summer Tee Sale
In an effort to encourage the summer's wrath to wrap up a little sooner, Decatur Screenprint is offering a preemptive end-of-summer tee sale. We have a stock of Decatur Beach Party tees, Decatur Metro "There's A Festival For That," and many other local artist and Decatur city tees on sale for $10 and up.

Auditions Now for The DeKalb Choral Guild
Did you sing in high school or college, loved it and now miss it? Has glee inspired you to find a community group to sing with? You've found it! The DeKalb Choral Guild, based at Embry Hills UMC, is holding auditions for all voice parts in August for the coming season. This 60 voice chorus challenges its singers with a wide variety of repertoire. This year will be especially exciting. We will: host our own GA Young Composers Festival, sing with the Atlanta Philharmonic (Messiah), and prepare for our next international tour. Rehearsals are Monday nights. First Baptist Announces Wednesday Programming
Join us on Wednesdays for:

Dinner, 5:30-6:30pm: Adults $6, Students $5, Children 10 and under $3, Family maximum $20.

Children's musical, "The Great Race" - rehearsals begin August 24, all Decatur community children are welcome.

Youth Group begins August 24: middle school & high school students welcome

Kiwanis Club of Decatur First Annual Picnic
Kiwanis Club of Decatur would like to invite you and your family to our First Annual Picnic. The picnic is scheduled for September 17 from 3-6pm at Glen Lake Park on Church Street.

Magic of Life Foundation Announces 19th Celebration for Cancer Survivors
The Magic of Life Foundation will host its 19th Celebration for Cancer Survivors October 1 from 12pm-3pm at the bandstand in downtown Decatur. The event gives cancer survivors a chance to celebrate their triumph over the disease and share stories of love and inspiration.

This year’s attendees will enjoy lunch, live music and a variety of activities. All cancer survivors receive free admission, which includes lunch and a free shirt. Admission for guests is $10. For tickets, to volunteer or sponsor visit

Walk For Lunch-Decatur Starts October 4
Walk For Lunch is a corporate and community lunch hour wellness program founded by DBA members Zachary and Zuaquis Ross.

Where: Decatur Square
When: October 4 to October 27, 2011, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12pm-1pm

Walkers may choose to walk at lunch with us from the Decatur Square or they can choose to walk on their own using Walk For Lunch 1 and 2 mile walking maps.
