Got news? DBA members are invited to share news and announcements with the Decatur community. Fill out this form, providing complete information as requested. Type or copy and paste your story into the box called "Submission Text." Your article will be reviewed for appropriateness and possible inclusion in the next DBA E-newsletter.

Submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis, limited to 15 submissions per newsletter. Newsletters are published on the first and the third Thursdays of each month, so submissions are due by the end of business the Monday prior to distribution.

Please note that graphic files are limited to no more than 250 pixels in any dimension (width or height) and must be 72 dpi, in .JPG or .GIF format. Images that exceed these parameters cannot be accepted.

Join Us For The Arts Festival Poster Unveiling
Be among the first to see the 2012 Decatur Arts Festival poster on Thursday, May 3 at 5pm, in the Old Courthouse on the Square. The event is free and open to the public. The Poster Unveiling is the official beginning of the Decatur Arts Festival. The poster was created by Lonnie Selph, a talented artist who also proudly serves in the US Marines, spent two years in Iraq & is now in the Reserves. Come meet the artist, bring home an autographed poster & enjoy complimentary food, drinks & music. 19th Annual Decatur Bulldog Booster Golf Tournament
Join us at the 19th Annual Decatur Bulldog Golf Tournament on Monday, May 14 at Mystery Valley Golf Course. We have play, sponsorship and volunteer spaces available. Tell your friends and try to get at least one more person to play. We can raise a lot of money for the kids & have a blast doing it. The range opens at 10am & shotgun starts at noon.

May Special Events At Decatur Healing Arts
May is the month for a variety of life enrichment classes at Decatur Healing Arts.

Highlights include a Cosmic Sound Healing Concert scheduled for May 5. The performance is by a Lightworker and Sound and Energy Healer, Airathia Iananda.

Learning how to thrive & stay healthy with simple, seasonal dishes will be the focus of A Springtime Cooking Workshop on May 19. Featured will be whole-food and macrobiotic cooking and wheat free dishes.

New Blog Follows Historic Decatur Renovation
Local remodeler Renewal Design-Build is documenting the extreme transformation of a 1920s craftsman bungalow in historic Decatur. is a “Renovation Diary” meant to give homeowners an inside look into the renovation process.

Senior Connections: Volunteers Urgently Needed In Decatur
Senior Connections, a nonprofit agency helping seniors stay independent, is in urgent need of Decatur area volunteers to deliver Meals On Wheels. Routes are delivered out of Decatur First United Methodist Church Monday through Friday. A route takes about 90 minutes to deliver and all stops are in and around Decatur. Please call Sharon Steele, Director of Volunteerism, at 404-488-6167 or go to to submit an online application. Companies can also “adopt” a route and rotate employees. All meals are delivered by noon. For a small time commitment you get a great reward! Please help.

DeKalb Choral Guild Announces Composition Winners At Festival
On Saturday April 28, The DeKalb Choral Guild held its second Georgia Young Composers Festival at Avondale Estates First Baptist Church. Four collegiate composer finalists competed with their original choral works sung by the DeKalb Choral Guild at Saturdays festival concert.

The compositions were submitted and selected earlier this year. The winner, from UGA, is Kent Kercher for his piece titled, Magnificat. Second place goes to Agnes Scott senior Andrea J. Love for her composition, War is Kind. Renowned judges of the event included: Nick Demos (GSU), Lee Johnson (LaGrange College) and Sonny Walden.
